The City of Kingston says the nomination period for the 2026 municipal election opens May 1, with residents encouraged to book appointments to file their papers.
Officials say scheduling a time helps reduce wait times and allows staff to assist candidates with forms and requirements. Those interested can run for mayor, district councillor or school board trustee.
The city is also promoting resources through Get Involved Kingston, including key dates, guidance and upcoming information sessions. The nomination period closes at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21.
Deputy city clerk Derek Ochej says the goal is to make the process more accessible and easier to understand.
Candidates must be at least 18, a Canadian citizen, and live in or have property ties to Kingston, while not being disqualified by law.
