Unemployment holding steady in Kingston, across Ontario and nationally

200 people found part-time work, no change in the number of full-time employment.

Unemployment pretty much held steady in Kingston and across Canada.

Statistics Canada released their unemployment figures for the month of August.

The rate sat at 5.5 percent in Kingston, down from 5.7 percent in July.

The decline was due to an increase of 200 part-time workers, there were no changes in the number of full-time employment.

Neighbouring Belleville-Quinte West saw a decrease of 1.3 percent to 5.4 percent.

Ontario's unemployment rate in August was up 0.1 percent to 6.8 percent.

The national unemployment rate for August was 6.4 percent, no change from the previous month.

There were 42,000 jobs eliminated during the month of August in Canada.
