Tips can continue to be submitted directly to Kingston Police.
Kingston Police are going to be using tools other than Crime Stoppers when conducting investigations.
This is in response to the cybersecurity incident involving a third-party platform that Crime Stoppers uses to gather and retain information for investigations.
In a news release, Kingston Police say while they use Crime Stoppers for obtaining tips on cases, the two systems are operated separately and not integrated with each other.
They say they will not be using the Crime Stoppers platform for the time being as more information on the cybersecurity incident becomes available.
They go on to say they understand the importance of public trust, confidentiality, and tipster safety, and will continue to monitor developments and assess any potential impacts on police operations.
In the meantime, tips can be submitted to Kingston Police through their online portal or by calling 613-549-4660 ext 0.
Crime Stoppers were hit with a major data breach back in March that resulted in more than 100,000 tips, some containing personal information, being compromised.
