Adam Goljer scored twice for Kingston who take the first game of a home-and-home.
Rivalry weekend got off to a great start for the Kingston Frontenacs.
In fact, a lot of things went right for the team against their main rivals from Ottawa Friday night at Slush Puppie Place.
The Frontenacs went 3-for-6 with the man advantage, got great goaltending from Royden Smith who made 26 saves, and held their own when things got chippy especially in the third period.
Add all that up and the Frontenacs wound up with a 4-2 victory over the 67's in the first of two meetings between the two clubs this weekend.
Head coach Troy Mann thinks this was the best he has seen from the team on both ends of the ice this season.
Los Angeles draft pick Adam Goljer had a pair of goals, both on the power play which was 12th in the league entering the game.
Mann says special teams overall was very effective against an Ottawa team that was near the top in both categories.
There was no shortage of physical play. Both teams combined for a total of 58 minutes in penalties.
Ty Robar dropped the gloves with Braydon Krawczyk of the 67s at the 12:39 mark in the third period. At the same time, Nolan Buttar got into it with Ottawa's Nolan Jackson with Buttar receiving the instigator plus a game-misconduct for being the second fight during the stoppage.
Captain Vann Williamson was certainly impressed with the way his team played.
Williamson was playing in his 200th OHL game becoming the 44th player in franchise history to reach that milestone.
He reflects how he was able to accomplish that all while in Kingston.
Nolan Snyder and Brody Cook also scored for the Frontenacs (8-5-0-0). Snyder's goal was his eighth on the season putting him one up on Alex Misiak who was serving the second game of his two-game suspension.
Cole Zurawksi and Alex McLean each collected two assists. Zurawski now has four points in the three games since joining the Frontenacs.
Spencer Bowes and Filip Ekberg replied for the 67s (7-2-2-0). Jayden Nelson stopped 25 shots in a losing effort.
The same two teams will face off this Sunday afternoon in Ottawa.
New Country 98.9 will have the game on Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs Hockey. Jim Gilchrist will have the call starting at 3 pm.
