Two local Ontario family physicians recognized for outstanding care and leadership

Dr. Anna Chavlovski of Amherstview was recognized for her comprehensive community-based care at the Loyalist Family Health Team.

The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) honored 13 family physicians and future physicians on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, for excellence in patient care, leadership, advocacy, research, and medical education.

Recipients were nominated by peers across Ontario’s six health regions for Regional Family Physician of the Year awards. A committee of family physicians reviewed nominations and selected award winners, including Ontario’s Reg L. Perkin Family Physician of the Year.

From the East region, Dr. Anna Chavlovski of Amherstview was recognized for her comprehensive community-based care at the Loyalist Family Health Team. She mentors Queen’s University medical students and family medicine residents, supporting their clinical and leadership development.

Dr. Chavlovski holds key leadership positions, including Chair of the Health Home Support Structure and Regional Clinical Lead for Primary Care with Ontario Health East. She is praised for her evidence-based, compassionate care and commitment to shaping the future of primary care through education and health system leadership.

An Award of Excellence was presented to Dr. Jamaica Cass, a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, who provides primary care and obesity medicine in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Dr. Cass is a nationally recognized leader in Indigenous health and medical education, serving in leadership roles at Queen’s University and across national Indigenous health organizations, advancing reconciliation and health equity in Canada.
