Residents can exchange eligible parking tickets for new toys to help local children and families during the holiday season.
The City of Kingston’s Toys for Tickets program returns Nov. 1, giving residents a chance to turn parking fines into holiday gifts for children in need.
Until Dec. 3, eligible parking tickets can be paid with a new, unopened toy worth at least the fine amount. A receipt is required, and only one toy is accepted per ticket.
Donations can be dropped off at the City Hall Payment Centre at 216 Ontario St. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the centre closed from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Toys must not require batteries or promote violence. Tickets for unauthorized parking in accessible spaces are not eligible.
Games, cars, dolls and stuffed animals for children aged zero to 12 are recommended. Toys for children aged zero to two and eight to 12 are especially needed.
Since 2005, the program has collected about 4,249 toys for local families.
