Police say someone in the facility was in distress and there is no threat to public safety.
There was a large police presence outside the Henry Trail Correctional Community Centre in Kingston.
Emergency crews were called to the facility on Bath Rd around 12:30 pm Thursday about a person in distress.
Kingston Police along with Correctional Service Canada and Frontenac Paramedics remained at the scene for several hours. There is no word as to whether there were any injuries or arrests.
Kingston Police Media Relations Officer Cst. Anthony Colangeli says there is no risk to public safety.
The Kingstonist is reporting that a person barricaded themselves inside the facility.
