Less than one-third of eligible voters in Ontario participated in the 2022 municipal elections according to AMO.
Municipal elections in Ontario are edging closer, with provincial and federal officials urging residents to get involved.
According to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, less than one-third of eligible voters participated in the 2022 municipal election.
Michael Barrett, a federal MP who previously served at the municipal level, said it is imperative people get out and vote.
Steve Clark, a provincial MPP and Government House Leader who also served at the municipal level, said municipal councils affect everyone in the community.
Young adults have continued to see lower voter turnout in elections, and Clark encouraged them to get involved.
Barrett said municipal politics also give young people an opportunity to put their names on the ballot.
Ontario’s municipal elections are scheduled for Oct. 26.
Residents across the province are being encouraged to take part, cast their ballots and have a say in their community’s future.
