VIA Rail passengers travelling between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal were impacted by delays on Tuesday.
Train passengers travelling between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal faced delays Tuesday after an incident involving a trespasser near Lansdowne.
According to multiple sources, a statement said Train 65 struck a trespasser east of Kingston, prompting an emergency response and disrupting service in both directions. The rail crossing leading into the Village of Lansdowne was closed to vehicle traffic at approximately 2 p.m. while police and emergency crews worked at the scene.
VIA Rail confirmed that no passengers or crew members were injured in the incident. However, several trains experienced delays as authorities conducted their investigation.
Residents reported a significant Ontario Provincial Police presence in the village throughout the afternoon. The crossing remained closed for several hours before the scene was cleared at approximately 6 p.m.
