City adopts permanent weather-based overnight parking restrictions for the 2025–2026 winter season.
Kingston’s weather-based overnight winter parking restrictions take effect on Dec. 1. The City says the system allows crews to clear roads more effectively while permitting on-street parking when conditions are safe.
Starting Monday, overnight street parking will only be banned in December and March if the weather requires it. However, in January and February, no overnight on-street parking is allowed regardless of conditions.
When a ban is activated, parking is prohibited from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m., or 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. around Kingston General Hospital. Vehicles left on the street may be ticketed and towed.
The rules were tested as a pilot during the previous two winters before Council approved them permanently in October 2024.
Public Works Director Karen Santucci says clear streets are essential for safe winter operations. Parking bans will be announced the afternoon before they take effect through news releases, the City’s website, and social media.
