Bookings can be made up to one week in advance.
Families visiting Shannon Park splashpad in Kingston now have access to a new aquatic wheelchair, making summer play more inclusive for children with mobility needs.
Starting today (June 23), the waterproof wheelchair can be booked daily through August 31, with three time slots available.
Bookings can be made up to one week in advance at CityofKingston.ca/Play, with check-in at the Rideau Heights Community Centre.
The new chair features adjustable straps, a headrest, and brakes, allowing for both assisted and independent use. Its quick-dry design ensures comfort and convenience for all users.
The model was selected for its durability, accessories, and proven success in a pilot program by the City of Calgary. The initiative supports Kingston’s ongoing goal of removing barriers to play and recreation.
Note: The chair is not available on public holidays. Residents are asked to cancel unused bookings so more families can enjoy this accessible option at the splashpad.
