The former Loyalist deputy mayor was re-appointed by the County of Lennox and Addington as their representative.
Nathan Townend has been reappointed as chair of the Southeast Public Health Board of Health following his departure from municipal politics earlier this month.
The board confirmed the appointment during its meeting Wednesday after Lennox and Addington County reappointed Townend to the board in his new civilian role as director of communications and community development.
Townend previously served eight years in municipal government, including as deputy mayor of Loyalist Township and warden of Lennox and Addington County. He was first elected as an Amherst Island councillor in 2018.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza recommended that the board reappoint Townend as chair for the remainder of the 2026 term.
The reappointment allows Townend to continue leading the board during the ongoing public health merger, strategic planning, and the lead-up to the 2026 municipal election. He has said maintaining stable leadership during this period is an important priority.
