BC-area MP Frank Caputo introduced the bill on Thursday that's getting support from local MPs.
Conservative MP Frank Caputo has introduced Bill C-225 to Parliament Last Thursday.
The Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola MP called it the most significant bill to address intimate partner violence when he addressed the house.
The bill passed first reading.
Local MPs Scott Reid of Lanark-Frontenac and Shelby Kramp-Neuman of Hastings-Lennox & Addington-Tyendinaga have also expressed their support for the bill.
Caputo further explained what the bill would include.
The bill would also restrict release from custody for repeat offenders, and allow courts to order risk-of-reoffending assessments.
