A 51-year-old man is facing murder charges.
Kingston Police Service is investigating a homicide after a 34-year-old man died from injuries linked to an assault in the city’s west end.
Police say officers were called to Kingston General Hospital on the evening of Dec. 30, 2025, after an unidentified male patient was pronounced dead. The man was later identified as Jayme Shawn Syring of Kingston.
Investigators say the assault took place at a residence in the 2600 block of Princess Street. The Major Crime Unit took over the case with help from forensic officers and patrol members.
On the morning of Jan. 1, 2026, a 51-year-old Kingston man was arrested. Police also executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Sutherland Drive.
The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court on Jan. 2.
Police say the investigation is ongoing but believe the incident was isolated and poses no risk to public safety. No other injuries were reported.
