Maitland residents are reeling after INVISTA announced it will close its local plant in the coming months, cutting about 100 jobs.
The facility, owned by Koch Industries, is one of Augusta Township’s largest employers.
The company says the closure is due to market conditions, not employee performance.
Deputy Mayor Adrian Wynands warned the impact may reach beyond the 100 direct jobs.
Mayor Jeff Shaver noted the company’s long influence in Maitland since DuPont first established operations at the site in 1951.
INVISTA President and CEO Brook Vickery thanked employees, contractors, and others for their contributions, confirming all affected staff will receive severance.
Production of Dytek A will move to the company’s Victoria, Texas site.
Shaver explained the influence the closure will have on local tax dollars.
He added that he hopes the township is involved in the company’s final plans.
The exit process may take up to two years.
Augusta Township says it remains committed to supporting residents and attracting new opportunities.
