Parent company Koch says the decision to reduce workforce was not taken lightly.
The parent company of Invista says it fully understands the impact the proposed job cuts will have in Kingston.
“As part of a broader business transformation, we are implementing targeted organizational changes, including the difficult decision to reduce some roles at our Kingston facility," in an email statement from Koch to KingstonDaily.ca on Monday.
"We are committed to supporting those affected through this process and deeply value the ongoing partnership with the local community.”
Greg Lemon, Director of Corporate Affairs and Media Relations at Koch, says a total of 68 employees will be affected, not 100 as previously reported.
The announcement of the layoffs come after news that management at Invista held a staff meeting on Thursday telling employees that the plant on Front Road is bleeding red and can't continue to operate as is.
The company will start laying off people June 21 and that is expected to last until August 2.
