City continues to expand
A recent report presented to Kingston's council predicts significant population growth over the next 25 years, particularly in the west end and central areas.
The report, the fourth in a series, will help shape updates to the city's official plan, which may include expanding the urban boundary for new residential and employment lands.
By 2051, Kingston's population is expected to reach approximately 221,000 residents, including post-secondary students.
The city anticipates the addition of 92,200 residential units and 113,900 jobs.
The growth distribution highlights that the west end will gain about 24,900 new residents, representing 41% of the total growth, while the central area will see 20,500 new residents (34%).
The eastern region will add 14,100 new residents (23%), and the rural north will grow by 900 residents (2%).
These projections are based on historic building patterns, employment trends, and demographic changes.
