Kingston town crier heading to world championship — and he needs the city's help

Chris Whyman has been invited to compete in the 2026 World Invitational Town Crier Tournament in Chester, England, this September.

Kingston’s town crier Chris Whyman is heading to England to represent the city on the world stage.

Whyman shares his initial reaction.

Whyman has been a familiar face in Kingston for more than 42 years and is a three-time World Champion Town Crier. He has helped celebrate major events across the city, including leading the community Santa Parade and opening special events.

Whyman explains what goes into preparing for these championships.

Now, Whyman has been selected as one of 25 town criers from around the world invited to compete in the 2026 World Invitational Town Crier Tournament in Chester, England, this September.

A fundraiser has been launched by the Kingston Brewing Company to help cover basic travel costs, including airfare and accommodations. Funds will also help spruce up Whyman’s longtime town crier uniform ahead of the competition.

Any contribution is appreciated, with Whyman thanking everyone who supports his trip.
