Kingston Police Service is reporting that scammers are "spoofing" their name and number on caller IDs.
They say they have received a number of complaints about these calls.
Investigators say the callers falsely identify themselves as police officers requesting personal information as part of an investigation.
They say scammers will manipulate caller ID information to make it look legitimate.
Investigators say police will never ask for your social insurance number, banking, or other personal information.
They say anyone who receives such calls should hang up immediately, then contact Kingston Police at 613-549-4660 ext 0.
