HMCS Cataraqui open house offers hands-on look at Naval Reserve with more events planned.
People in Kingston and eastern Ontario got a rare chance to step into Royal Canadian Navy life on Saturday as HMCS Cataraqui hosted a Sailor for a Day open house.
The Kingston Naval Reserve unit offered hands-on activities, tours and talks to show what service is like with no commitment required.
Recruiting officer Lt. Kieran McDonald said he was very happy with the turnout.
Visitors met serving members, learned about part-time and full-time roles, and explored different opportunities in the Naval Reserve. The event was open to youth and adults and organizers say it could help spark future careers in the military.
Lt. McDonald says the program launched last year will return with more events, including another open house planned.
Recruiters were also on site answering questions and guiding people who wanted to start the application process.
