Investments in fibre technology, digital inclusion, and workforce development helped the city stand out
Kingston has been named one of the Top7 Intelligent Communities of 2025 by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), placing it among leading cities around the world for innovation, technology, and inclusive growth.
The ICF’s international panel recognized Kingston for its strong digital infrastructure, innovation networks, and efforts to promote sustainability and equity. The announcement was made June 17 at the ICF Top7 Conference in Spain.
Kingston shares the honour with six other communities worldwide, including Durham Region, Ontario. This marks Kingston’s return to the Top7 list for the first time since 2014.
Key investments in fibre technology, digital inclusion, and workforce development helped the city stand out in a competitive global field. Kingston’s Utilities Kingston fibre network continues to play a vital role in supporting innovation and economic opportunity.
The Top7 honour recognizes Kingston’s commitment to moving beyond being just a smart city — it’s a community where technology supports prosperity for everyone.
