Residents are encouraged to share unwanted household items, reduce waste and help keep reusable goods out of landfills.
Kingston residents will have another chance to clear out unwanted household items and find free treasures when Giveaway Day returns on Saturday, June 20.
The city-wide event encourages people to place reusable items at the curb for others to take, helping reduce waste while giving belongings a second life. Popular giveaway items include books, clothing, furniture, small appliances, electronics, kitchenware and construction materials.
Residents are asked to clearly mark items with a "FREE" sign and place only items they are willing to give away at the curb. Any unclaimed items must be brought back inside at the end of the day, as the City of Kingston will not collect them.
The city reminds participants not to leave or pick up unsafe items such as car seats, cribs, mattresses and certain children's products.
People searching for free items are encouraged to respect private property and only take items clearly marked "FREE." Giveaway Day also helps reduce landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
