A 22-year-old Sydenham man is facing multiple charges after being caught speeding at more than twice the legal limit while impaired. On May 1, 2025, just after 1:00 a.m., a Frontenac OPP officer clocked a vehicle travelling at 178 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Road 38, south of Harrowsmith.
The officer conducted a traffic stop, noting signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside breath test led to the arrest of the driver, identified as William MacDonald. Further testing at the Frontenac detachment confirmed impairment. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered open liquor and readily accessible cannabis.
MacDonald is charged with impaired driving (blood alcohol concentration 80 plus), dangerous operation, stunt driving, and violations related to liquor and cannabis possession. He was released with a court date set for June 10 in Kingston. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.
