KHSC says there was a 44 percent drop in offload times this spring compared to the year before.
Turnaround times for ambulances in Kingston and Frontenac County are becoming much faster than before.
According to Kingston Health Sciences Centre, offload times this past spring are down by 44 percent compared to the spring of 2025 despite the hospital operating at nearly 100 percent. This means that not only patients being transported by ambulance are getting access to treatments more quickly but also the ambulance will be able to return to service much sooner to help more people.
KHSC and Frontenac Paramedics have been working colaboratively for the last two years to improve community access to emergency medical services and enhance patient flow inside the department.
The two parties established an ambulance offload triage process to identify patients who were medically stable and able to safely stay in the waiting room rather than remain on an ambulance stretcher.
They say patients have taken notice of the improved offload times and often complimented the emergency department for their professionalism, compassion and efficiency.
