The Frontenac Arch Biosphere is one of the many regions saying no the Alto High Speed Rail Project. A recent media release discussed why they are against this.
Executive Director David Schimpky spoke with us about several reasons for their decision to say no to the project.
Several species depend on this region to live and would be greatly impacted if the rail line were built.
Schimpky says those speaking out against the project are encouraged to keep making your voices heard and keep many areas protected.
The Frontenac Arch Biosphere also supports 54 species at risk of extinction or expropriation. Officials also add that if the rail line were built, it will be essential that environmental assessment and mitigation measures meet the highest possible standards.
The network spans 2700 kilometres from Gananoque to Brockville along with Sydenham to Westport and Rideau Lakes.
