Frontenacs slow out of the gate in loss to 67's

Gavin Betts made 28 saves but Kingston managed only 13 shots on the Ottawa net.

A tough start to a busy weekend for the Kingston Frontenacs.

They managed only 13 shots on 67's netminder Ryder Fetterolf in a 3-0 shutout for Ottawa (7-1-0-0) Friday night at Slush Puppie Place.

On the other end, Gavin Betts made 28 saves for the Frontenacs (5-3-0-1) in the loss and head coach Troy Mann says he was the only one on the team that had a great game.

Landon Wright moved up to the first line with Tyler Hopkins and Jacob Battaglia as Mann mixed up his lines over the course of the game in an effort to generate some offence. 

He says the forwards haven't shown the consistency that he would like to have seen since the start of the season.

Jack Dever opened the scoring with his first period goal. Then in the second, Filip Ekberg tipped in a pass  just as the power play was about to expire for a 2-0 Ottawa lead.

Friday's game was the first of back-to-back-to-back games for the Frontenacs. The Oshawa Generals are in Kingston on Saturday then the Frontenacs travel to Ottawa on Sunday to face the same 67's team.

Mann believed that with a full lineup on Friday compared to their season opener against the 67's on Sept. 19 that they would have a much better effort.

Ottawa were 1-for-3 with the man advantage, Kingston didn't score on their lone opportunity.

Saturday's game against the Generals at Slush Puppie Place begins at 4 pm.
