AMO’s virtual sessions aim to help new and diverse candidates learn how to run for office.
The City of Kingston is promoting a series of free workshops designed to help diverse residents learn how to run for municipal office ahead of the October 2026 municipal elections. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario is offering the virtual sessions as part of its We All Win campaign, which highlights the need for more diverse voices on municipal councils.
The 90-minute workshop, Running for Municipal Office – Everything You Need to Know as a Diverse Candidate, covers what to expect when running, how to build a campaign, developing messaging, identifying audiences and engaging the community.
The sessions are led by former municipal councillors Steve Anderson and Jasvinder Sandhu.
Workshops take place on Dec. 3, 2025; Feb. 4, 2026; and April 8, 2026. Registration is free through AMO’s website, and the City of Kingston has more information about the municipal election process online.
