All four leadership hopefuls will be in North Grenville to discuss issues in rural ridings.
The Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Ontario Liberal Riding Association is set to host the first rural-focused leadership debate this Sunday, Aug. 16.
The debate will take place at the North Grenville Municipal Centre and will feature four Ontario Liberal leadership candidates from the Greater Toronto Area.
Ray Heffernan, president of the association, explained why he decided to organize the event.
He says the issues being discussed are similar to those facing other rural ridings across the province.
Heffernan also noted how the debate will differ from a regular political debate.
Candidates taking part will also not receive any specific questions beforehand.
The debate will feature Lee Fairclough, Eric Lombardi, Dylan Marando and Stephanie Bowman, all from the Greater Toronto Area.
Heffernan said anyone is welcome to attend the event in person or watch it live.
Discussion topics include agriculture and food security, rural health care, housing and rural growth, economic development and more.
Anyone attending will also have an opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates after the debate.
