Kingston Fire & Rescue is reminding residents about simple charging habits that can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires.
Kingston Fire & Rescue is encouraging residents to “Charge into Fire Safety” during National Fire Prevention Week, running Oct. 4 to 10.
This year’s campaign focuses on safe charging practices for products powered by lithium-ion batteries, including phones, toys, tools, e-bikes and mobility devices.
KFR Chief Kevin Donaldson says residents should use certified chargers, avoid leaving devices charging unattended overnight or on soft surfaces, and learn how to properly recycle damaged batteries.
KFR will host an open house and pancake breakfast Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at Station 3 on Gore Road.
Fire Hall Storytime events will also be held at Station 8 on Oct. 9 and Station 9 on Oct. 10, both at 10:30 a.m.
Firefighters will also visit local schools and retailers, with opportunities to explore fire trucks and meet Sparky.
