A sure sign the seasons are changing
Cataraqui Conservation, in partnership with regional water managers, has kicked off its annual fall water level adjustments on managed lakes across the Cataraqui Region.
The process, targeting lakes with water control structures like dams, is designed to prepare for fall rains and spring snowmelt.
It also helps stabilize water levels before winter, promoting safer ice conditions.
Recent rains have increased flows through some of these structures.
Over the next few weeks, staff will lower water levels at key sites, including the Odessa Lake Wilton Road Dam and Sydenham Lake Dam.
These adjustments are expected to be finished by December, though levels may vary with rainfall.
Residents are advised to exercise caution around dams and fast-moving water. They should maintain a safe distance from the water's edge and heed all warning signs to ensure safety.
