Businesses and residents are being encouraged to carefully check bills before accepting them.
Lennox and Addington OPP are warning residents about counterfeit $100 bills circulating in the Napanee area.
Police say several incidents involving fake one-hundred-dollar bills have been reported over the past week. Officers are encouraging businesses and residents to carefully check bills before accepting them.
The OPP recommends using the “Feel, Look and Flip” method to identify counterfeit notes. Genuine Canadian bills are made from smooth polymer and should not feel like paper. The text “Bank of Canada” and the main portrait should also feel slightly raised.
Police say people should also check the transparent window, which should contain a metallic portrait and building matching the image on the front of the bill.
Tilting the bill should cause the metallic portrait to change colour.
Anyone who believes they have received a counterfeit bill should contact police or bring it to their bank.
