East Kare says it plans to reopen June 1 but without CWELCC support.
The City of Kingston has ended funding for East Kare Early Learning after the daycare suddenly closed on Friday, May 16.
A report in the Kingstonist says City officials say East Kare, also known as 8831009 Canada Inc., broke its funding agreement and raised concerns about financial stability. The City gave notice of the plan to cancel the deal back on March 31.
The daycare will lose funding from the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system starting June 1. City staff say East Kare got all funding it was eligible for up to May 31.
The closure came after employee wage complaints and parent concerns. Ontario’s Ministry of Labour confirmed claims were filed in April.
Some parents removed their children; others struggled to get their belongings. The business had blamed late City funding and asked families to pay June fees early.
East Kare says it plans to reopen June 1 but without CWELCC support.
