An 82-year-old man is charged in a 1994 cold case sexual assault
Lawrence Serson was arrested in 2023 by Kingston Police and has been in custody at Central East Correctional Centre ever since. His preliminary hearing began earlier this week at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston.
Serson faces five charges, including sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, and breaking and entering. The assault allegedly took place in a Kingston apartment in 1994. The female victim, who has since passed away, was 44 at the time.
The Crown’s case includes police and forensic expert testimony, video interviews with Serson, and a statement from the deceased victim.
A publication ban has been put in place by the judge, so information during the trial will be limited.
