Construction on a new housing project in Verona will soon get underway.
The project will see 92 units be built on two portions of land off Verona St with a mix of market-rate and affordable housing.
CAO for the Township of South Frontenac Louise Fragnito says work is expected to get underway in the fall once they receive all of the approvals.
The new housing project will use communal servicing for water and sewer. It allows for multiple dwellings to connect to servicing without having to be part of a large municipal service system.
Fragnito says there are plenty of benefits to a communal system.
Instead of a five to six-unit development, communal servicing would allow more homes to be built.
Fragnito says the project aims to attract both older and younger residents to the community.
Fragnito anticipates the one-bedroom units would go between $900 and $1,100 a month, and two-bedroom units around $1,300 a month. There has been no timetable set on an expected completion date.
