Helping local farmers get local food to local people
It's no secret than one of the keys to good health is good fresh food.
Those experiencing food insecurity are often forced to make less healthy choices when the food budget is strained. A group of local farmers and a bakers have returned for their third year of a unique collaboration to help solve the problem.
Tim Dowling of Doublejay Farms on Howe Island describes how the partnership with Fat Chance Farmstead and Grains and Goods Bakery was born.
Last year the number of families increased to 13 and this year they plan on helping to feed 20 families. They're working with a well-known group to choose the recipients of their harvest.
The benefits of this initiative extend far past full bellies and healthy bodies as Tim explains.
How Your Donation Helps:
$50 - Provides one WEEK of fresh veggies, bread, and beef to one family.
$200 - Provides one MONTH of fresh food to one family.
$500 - Provides one WEEK of fresh food to TEN families.
$1000 - Sponsors one family for the entire 18-WEEK program.
Tim's team is proudly partnering with KCHC Pathways to Education for streamlined, dignified distribution to families needing help this year.
