UPDATE: Vehicle fire breaks out at Amherstview retirement home parking lot

Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze involving a vehicle at Windsor Retirement Home as officials have not reported any injuries.

UPDATE:

A vehicle fire at the Windsor Retirement Residence in Amherstview damaged four vehicles Wednesday afternoon, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the building.

Loyalist Township Emergency Services said crews were called to the retirement residence on Park Crescent just before 2 p.m. after reports of a vehicle fire in the parking lot.

When firefighters arrived, they found two vehicles fully involved in flames. Crews deployed hose lines and quickly contained the fire to the two original vehicles, preventing it from spreading further.

Officials said two additional vehicles sustained minor heat damage. Two vehicles were destroyed and are considered complete losses.

The fire did not spread to the retirement residence, and residents remained safely inside the building throughout the incident. No injuries were reported.

Emergency crews remained at the scene until shortly after 3:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not been released. Images shared on social media appeared to show the fire started in the trunk area of one vehicle, but officials have not confirmed where or how the blaze began.
