Police seized 1,300 morphine pills worth over $12K.
A routine traffic stop in Gananoque has resulted in drug trafficking charges against a Kingston resident.
Gananoque Police say an officer stopped a vehicle on August 4 after noticing it was displaying an expired licence plate. The driver provided verbal identification but was unable to produce any physical identification. Further investigation revealed the driver's licence was suspended.
During the investigation, officers located a significant quantity of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. Police seized approximately 1,300 morphine pills with an estimated street value of $12,000.
A 54-year-old Kingston resident has been charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code.
The vehicle was impounded, and the accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
