The Household Hazardous Waste Depot reopens for the season on Thursday (April 3) at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre, 196 Lappan’s Ln.
Residents can drop off hazardous waste on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors must follow staff instructions and remain in their vehicles while waiting. Proof of residency is required.
Household hazardous waste includes items like batteries, paint, propane cylinders, and household cleaners. These materials should never be placed in regular garbage or poured down drains. Items must be stored safely until drop-off and should remain in original containers when possible.
Smoke detectors can go in household garbage, but asbestos and explosives are not accepted at the depot. Kingston Police can help with explosive disposal.
For disposal information, visit www.CityofKingston.ca/WasteLookup or check with local retailers that accept hazardous waste items.
