Community members and project partners toured the new shared-care facility Thursday.

A new shared-care facility on Queen Mary Road opened its doors Thursday as project partners and community members gathered for an open house.

The event at 315 Queen Mary Road gave visitors a chance to tour the facility and learn more about the services being offered under the Shared Care Model.

Manager of homelessness services Julie Lambert explains more.

The site brings together primary health care, transitional housing and community programming.

MPP Ted Hsu gives his insight.

Kingston Community Health Centres operates the Midtown Kingston Health Home, which is already providing primary health-care services at the location.

Home Base Housing will provide transitional housing for up to 35 people aged 55 and older. Residents are expected to begin moving into the space over the coming weeks, with 24/7 on-site staff available.

Lambert explains that data shows people who are experiencing homelessness tend to be older.

The facility will also include community programming, including a vocational laundry program operated by Lionhearts.

A wellness centre is also planned, with services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respiratory rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.
