City announces full day of entertainment, fireworks and holiday service changes.
Residents looking for Canada Day plans can head downtown for a full day of free entertainment, live music and fireworks as the City of Kingston prepares for its annual celebration on July 1.
Festivities will take place from noon to 10 p.m. at Confederation Park and Springer Market Square, featuring live performances, cultural programming, food vendors and family-friendly activities. The evening will include a free concert beginning at 7 p.m. with Kingston DJ Deena and headlining act Soul Sublime, followed by a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
City officials are encouraging residents to leave fireworks to the professionals and remind anyone hosting gatherings with open-air fires that a free permit is required.
Several municipal services will be affected by the holiday. Garbage and green bin collection will be delayed by one day, while administrative offices, libraries and most recreation facilities will be closed.
Kingston Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Drivers should also plan ahead, as the LaSalle Causeway will be fully closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Canada Day.
