Restrictions remain in place until Sept. 15 to help protect Kingston’s water supply and the environment.
Summer watering restrictions are now in effect for residents and businesses and will remain in place until Sept. 15 as the City of Kingston works to reduce water demand during the hottest months of the year.
Under the rules, properties with odd-numbered addresses may water outdoors on odd-numbered days, while even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days.
Sprinklers can only be used between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. on designated watering days, while hand watering with a hose, bucket or watering can is allowed at any time on the assigned day. Rain barrel water may be used any time.
Utilities Kingston says limiting outdoor water use helps maintain reliable water reserves and supports fire protection during periods of peak demand, typically between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Officials also say reducing excess watering helps limit polluted runoff entering Lake Ontario.
Residents are encouraged to fix leaks, use rain barrels and plant drought-tolerant gardens to conserve water throughout the summer.
