There is no word as to the number of occupants in the vehicle at the time of crash.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is being brought in after a vehicle went into the water in Greater Napanee.
Lennox and Addington OPP were conducting patrol late Tuesday night when they spotted a vehicle on Highway 33 near County Rd 21 west of Bath.
The officer attempted to make a traffic stop around 10:55 pm but the vehicle drove into a ditch and later submerged into Lake Ontario.
OPP investigators say it is not known how many occupants were in the vehicle at the time.
Members of the Prince Edward County OPP Marine Unit, OPP Aviation Services, OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre searched the area for any occupants.
Highway 33 remains closed at County Rd 21 as the on-scene investigation continues.
In the meantime, the SIU has invoked its mandate and the OPP are no longer providing updates on the case.
