SIU investigates after two found dead following South Frontenac traffic stop attempt

OPP were trailing a suspicious vehicle that was reported stolen.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the deaths of a man and woman following a single-vehicle collision in South Frontenac.

The SIU says an Ontario Provincial Police officer approached a man in a parked vehicle shortly after midnight Monday after police received a report about a suspicious vehicle that was later determined to be stolen.

The driver fled and was involved in a collision a short time later on Bedford Road near Salmon Lake Road.

The male driver and female passenger were found dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.

The OPP had initially responded to the suspicious vehicle shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday and attempted to stop it before it fled.

Bedford Road remains closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane for majority of the day Monday as the investigation continues.

Three SIU investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is asking anyone with information, photos or video to contact investigators.
