Reliance Home Comfort is helping local seniors stay cool this summer through a City of Kingston pilot program that provides free air conditioning units to eligible residents.
The Residential Air Conditioner Assistance Program, supported by the City and United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, provides units to low-income seniors aged 65 and older living in multi-residential buildings.
Kingston City Council approved $17,000 from the Environmental Reserve Fund in April to launch the program. United Way staff and volunteers delivered 45 air conditioning units to successful applicants in late June and early July.
Reliance Home Comfort technicians assisted with installations when additional support was needed to ensure the units were properly set up.
The program is designed to help protect seniors with health-related needs during extreme heat events. The City of Kingston will collect feedback from recipients to evaluate the impact of the pilot program.
