A group from Queen's University are among the Canadians impacted by the airstrikes in Iran.
The university confirmed that 16 students and one faculty have been stuck at an airport in Doha since Saturday. They were expected to return to Toronto after spending two weeks in Sri Lanka on a biology field trip.
The university says they have been in contact with the group and they are currently staying at a hotel in Doha. They say they have also been in contact with the students’ family to update them on the current situation.
Global Affairs Canada says there are around 85,000 Canadians currently in the region. They say they are not aware of any Canadians who have been injured or killed as a result of the hostilities.
The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Saturday targetting military facilities. US officials say the attacks have resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
