Gananoque Police are investigating after a deceased individual was discovered in the Gananoque River on Sunday morning.
Police say officers responded at approximately 11 a.m. to a report of a body in the river near Black Bridge. The deceased was found by members of the public who were paddling in the area.
The Gananoque Police Service, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police East Region Forensic Identification Unit and the Gananoque Fire Service, recovered the individual from the water.
Police are now working with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario to determine the identity of the deceased and notify the next of kin.
Investigators have not released any additional information at this time.
Gananoque Police thanked the public for its cooperation while emergency personnel responded to the incident and say the investigation remains ongoing.
