15 officers took part in the two-day course which included inspections of actual vehicles, five of which were taken off the road.
As students return to class this week, police officers across Eastern Ontario did some learning of their own.
15 officers from the OPP and municipal police forces were in Kingston last month for the 2nd annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Frontline Enforcement Course.
The two-day course delivered officers with the practical knowledge and skills needed to identify, inspect and enforce legislation involving commercial motor vehicles during roadside stops.
Part of the training was an actual roadside vehicle inspection where 21 commercial motor vehicles were stopped. Five vehicles were placed out of service due to major defects or because they did not meet North American safety standards.
The course, assisted by the Ministry of Transportation, supports ongoing efforts by police and transportation enforcement partners to improve commercial vehicle safety and enhance frontline enforcement capabilities across the province.
