Someone brought an undetonated device to the Ottawa OPP detachment last Friday.
The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding residents across Eastern Ontario never to transport unexploded military explosives after a dangerous incident in Ottawa earlier this month.
On July 10, an individual brought an unexploded Second World War grenade to the Ottawa OPP Detachment for disposal. Police said the action created an unnecessary risk for the person carrying the device and for others nearby.
The OPP is urging anyone who discovers suspected unexploded ordnance to leave it exactly where it is and contact their local police service immediately. Officers will arrange for an Explosives Disposal Unit to respond and safely remove the item.
Unexploded military explosives can still be dangerous decades after they were originally used or discarded.
The OPP says the safety message applies across Ontario, including Eastern Ontario, and reminds anyone who discovers a suspected unexploded military explosive to leave it where it is and contact local police immediately.
