Program expands to include weekends and holidays
Veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces who live in Ontario can now enjoy free day-use access to Ontario Parks every day of the week.
The provincial government announced the expanded program took effect July 20, allowing eligible visitors to access more than 340 provincial parks on weekends, long weekends and statutory holidays, in addition to weekdays.
The program was first introduced in 2019 and had previously been limited to weekday visits. Since then, Ontario Parks has recorded more than 228,000 visits by veterans, active service members and their families.
Eligible visitors can reserve online through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service or present valid military identification and proof of Ontario residency when they arrive. Free entry also applies to everyone travelling in the same vehicle.
The province says expanding the program will make it easier for veterans and active service members to enjoy time outdoors, which can support physical and mental well-being. There is no limit on how often eligible visitors can use the free day-use program, although reservations are recommended during busy periods.
