Ed came from Houston to be a part of the celebration.
The Tragically Hip has attracted fans from all over the world.
Thousands of them are in Kingston for the Forever Hip celebration at Springer Market Square.
There are a number of them from the United States that travelled up to Kingston to be a part of the celebration. One of them is Ed from Houston, Texas.
He tells FLY FM's Reid and Ben that he first heard about the band from a friend who often gets him tickets to shows in Houston.
Ed says he has been a fan of the Tragically Hip since 1993 and this is his first ever visit to the band's hometown. He says he came up to Kingston to celebrate the music of the Hip and the life of the late Gord Downie.
Ed says he has seen the Hip perform in other places including twice on their final tour.
Ed recalls a time when the Hip played in Houston in what turned out to be the final show in the US.
He says he was able to meet members of the band in person.
Forever Hip continues on Friday with a screening of the band's documentary A Long Time Running. Then on Saturday, they will air an encore presentarion of the band's final concert in Kingston that occurred on August 20, 2016.
